A Very Belated UPDATE!

Hey all,

I am resuming my blog! XD

Just an update – I was in Puerto Rico from June 14thish to June 20thish (6 days – but around then), took a spanish final, graduated, got a diploma, found out that I didn’t fail any classes and probably don’t have to worry about being rescinded, and am now home FREE!!!!!

So I’ve been making progress on my goals. Been exercising at least 1/2 hour (mostly an hour) every day since Tuesday, running or biking with mom or friends (well one – Lena! XD) =) And today I used my juicer for the first time, but when I’d already juiced half the veggies I noticed that juice was running on the counter… and I realized that I’d forgotten to put the cup under the spout… X____________X

But I did get a LITTLE juice and made raw goodies for the rest of the day! =D

Besides that I started reading a book called “Reading like a writer” in an effort to improve my writing skills so that I can actually write a GOOD novel as opposed to… um… the opposite of a good novel =P

And I have not been watching Asian dramas for at least two weeks! =O I actually tried to start one (Story of a Man) but I couldn’t get beyond ep 2… Looks like the end of an obsession… but I’ll continue my reviews because I really did have an awesome time watching them. I’m thinking that it might be good to try exploring art/media from different cultures and genres to in order to get a good background to write a novel that isn’t just a cheesy romance. But I hope those Asian dramas will SOMEHOW help.

Btw, who never heard about me writing a novel until now? Sorry XD; Not giving away any more info until it’s mostly done because it’s in a nearly constant state of flux at this point…

OK, enough obscureness, time for a VIDEO!

Watch the REAL video on Youtube – I’ve seen it like 20 times and it only gets better XDD

More pics in the next post! Sorry! ><;;;

Japanese Drama Ratings

OK all, before I post long drama reviews I’m just going to put ratings and quick thoughts for all the dramas I have seen that I can remember… later I’ll add pics… here goes:

Japanese:

1 Litre of Tears – Tragedy/Romance – first drama I watched, I was blown away by the acting and convinced that nothing could be better for a long time… It will make you think. It really is life-changing.
Need to rewatch to confirm rating, but 9-10/10

Gokusen – Comedy – Ah so good. I watched 2 and part of 1. The actress who plays the main teacher makes the show. It’s hilarious! But the plot is basically the same in each series, so you might be able to stomach only one. If you like Jun Matsumoto from Arashi, pick 1, if you like Kattun more, pick 2, and if you want younger guys pick 3… =P Just kidding, but I’d recommend to try 1 and THEN 2, or 3 on its own =)
9.5/10 for your first one, 5/10 for the third one

Hana Yori Dango 1 and 2 – Romance – HYD 1 was SO SO good. Although I’m not a Jun fan, I LOVED him in this series. So much better than the Korean remake. HYD 2 dragged on though. Too much frigging melodrama in that one. The ending was OK though. Watch 1 or both. But don’t even look at the movie.
9/10 HYD 1, 7.5/10 HYD 2

Hanakazari no kimitachi e – Romance/Comedy – I prefer the Taiwanese version (Hana Kimi). But many people prefer this one. Basically a girl that wants to meet a high-jump champion goes to his all-guys school and pretends to be a guy. Except this girl was so OBVIOUSLY not a guy. They didn’t make her like one or speak like one. The director just wanted to make her look cute. And the boys had all these crazy antics and CLUBS… oh dear…
Well, if you REALLY like Shun Oguri or Japanese dramas in general this is a must-watch, you’ll tell if you’ll like it or not in 1-2 eps.
7.5/10

Nobuta wo Produce – Drama/Comedy – This is interesting. Two guys try to give a girl a “makeover” so that she can become popular and gain self-esteem. A great friendship story, with places for laughter and places for tears (although overall I think the story is light). Yamapi is very funny here, the girl is good, Kattun guy is OK.
8.5/10

Now for the darker ones…

Last Friends – Drama/Romance – Not ALL dark, but… If you want a serious drama that explores um, deep issues like gender confusion and domestic abuse, watch this. Great performances, great opening song – it may be one of the best of this genre, but probably only for serious viewers.
9/10

Yasha – Action/Mystery/Thriller – THE MOST UNDERRATED DRAMA EVER!!!!!!!!! Why does no one know about this? The science aspect is very believable (or you can easily suspend your disbelief like in Jurassic Park) and the acting by Ito Hideaki is just beyond words. Seriously amazing. I love the opening song, I loved the ending… Just watch it, try it PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!
10/10

A Million Stars Falling From the Sky – Mystery/Romance – I totally LOVE the insert song that comes in whenever something crazy happens. The acting is amazing. Not perfect for me, but if you like stories about imperfect – well, VERY imperfect characters, but for a reason – then you’ll like this. Takuya is totally hot. Tragic though, watch if you dare.
9/10

Korean and Taiwanese dramas will wait until sometime within next week!

Video of the day:

Korean Drama Ratings

Hey all! After some yummy organic vegan chocolate ice cream from this place on 10th street and 2nd avenue called Stogo (if you’re in NYC try it! YUM!!!), I am continuing these drama ratings!

I’m saving the Taiwanese dramas as last but not least! There are some great Korean dramas out there but they mostly seem to follow the cinderella formula… well most asian dramas do but Korean ones seem to make an extra effort to… but Korean ones also have the best pairings too! Anyway here are my ratings, you can also check out http://www.dramabeans.com for even more ratings and actual reviews XD

Korean:

My Girl – Romance/Comedy/Not-really-tragic? – When I was watching this I was amazed by the chemistry from the two leads, even from episode 1 or 2 or so. It was amazing. So natural. And both of them are soooo hilarious!!!
What I didn’t like:
Drunk scenes – too many, too repetitive, they sometimes fed into the storyline but were kind of annoying… especially since the useless second guy was ALWAYS randomly there… anyway you’ll see what I mean…
The ending episodes – Fudge the time lag thing! Fudge pretending! Fudge fudge fudge!!! Well, I won’t reveal any more than that. Just a note to future Korean filmmakers – the perfect ending to any romance involves ELOPING!!! (Well it would to this one at least =P) I hope this was vague enough to not spoil anything. If you haven’t watched it you’re in for a treat for the first 13-14 episodes. That’s all you need really. And maybe the last few minutes of 16. XP
Some parts of the plot: So frustrating, I ended up hating Goo Chan’s gf and Yoo Rin’s dad for his stupidity, but that was only because of the stupid ending so basically this all goes into the ending.
What I LIKED: Chemistry, Yoo Rin’s chicken scene, the whole discovering love-angst… holy crap this was GOOD…
10/10 for episodes 1-14, 3/10 for episodes 15-16

My Name is Kim Sam Soon – Romance/Comedy/Drama – Great, great series, lots of laughs – “Kim Sam Soon” is definitely a character – but not quite as memorable for me. I guess it’s more realistic and it’s supposedly targetted more to middle-aged women because that’s what KSS is, but she is WAY too obsessed with her weight… I mean that’s all she thinks about even near the end and after she’s lost weight… my opinion btw…
Watch it. There should have been a Kim Sam Soon 2 with a more conclusive ending, but on the whole it’s OK enough and enjoyable. Actually, the more I think about it the more I remember it. The way they fall in love is so nice. So many great moments, even among a few awkward ones (mother running into the restaurant to beat the manager up?), but it’s a great show overall!
8.9/10

Boys Before Flowers – There’s no need to actually watch this. Just go read all of Javabean’s episode recaps and you won’t be deprived. On the contrary. You’ll be reading sophisticated material that has some thought put into it – analysis, criticism, sarcasm, etc. – as opposed to the mess that is the original series. Fine. You can try episodes 1-9 – those are OK – but if you want a good series watch the Japanese Hana Yori Dango instead. Or maybe MG.
5.5/10

… I really don’t have energy to do any more right now…

Ones that are apparently good but that I didn’t have the patience to watch: Flowers for My Life, Full House, Return of Iljimae…

OK! Movie time!

Green Vid

Courtesy of dramabeans.com. Sorry. I just had to post this.

OK, this is my first “green” post. And it would be long. But I’m sleepy. So I’m going to put up an earlier vid – but with SUBS – because the lyrics actually describe my view of the world. Seriously. No one could have done it better. “Can’t tell anyone about the promise from the past…”

Growing Pains…

I swore to myself since I was 8 that I would never grow up. Maybe that’s why I’m so short now. XD

So I’m basically a kid that has more power than ever. I could use it to reign supreme or I could use it to crash and burn. I’ve already crashed and burned enough these past few months, so I’m going to take charge and take advantage of the new chances I have to live my life.

(WARNING: None of this is meant to be offensive to anyone, marathon runners or otherwise – I might still be a marathon runner! – and some of this may just be me thinking too much, so if you like lighter stuff read my drama reviews or something =P)

OK, so here are the things I’ve got to do on my own:

1) ORGANIZE
Time, office, life, everything. For instance, I should be rearranging my papers right now. I’m going to have to get used to a schedule (which I used to hate!) because I believe that if I use it right I get more done that way.

2) EXERCISE
Yes, I used to be on sports teams, but the competition which can morph into cutthroat fights and even esteem-destroying disappointments for simple games just slowly lost their meaning for me. I dreamed of running marathons and admired Olympic athletes, but the fact that they would lose everything for a slip on the gymnastics mat or break their knee or lose their ability to run blew me off and made me look for other things to do that I felt had more meaning. That I wouldn’t lose one day to an all-too-common accident. Yes, I’m a coward. I realize that now. But I also want to spend my time on a cause, and not just on thinking about how I should be working on the environment or whatever while I’m running and nothing else. Then I started getting discouraged with my club and turned to entertainment for a release. And then it became an addiction and I couldn’t get anything done. And every day I miss my exercise.

So I’m going to put a stopper on all this entertainment crap except for when I’m with friends or when I’ve already done everything I’ve wanted to do, such as my daily self-motivated exercise (like BIKING!!! Oh so FUN!!!), and perhaps another sport because I think the bonds that I’ve created with my teammates are invaluable and something worth playing for. And it’s an extra motivation to improve my mind and body and be productive in everything else! I wish I had seen that a few months ago.

3) FOOD
Cook/prepare food and get into the habit so I can start cooking from a menu right away when I get to MIT!

4) BUDGET
Nuff said.

5) JOB
Working on that – hoping to get a job with New York’s National Park Service!

6) CLOTHES AND ALL THAT GOOD STUFF
Erm… ha, I always HATED shopping. But now I kind of want to make a statement and wear what looks like me. So I’m shopping. And I wanted to make my own clothes but my mom said that would be too much. I can still do it secretly though. I’m “technically” -ahem- an adult, after all.

7) WRITING MY NOVEL
W00t!!!!

8) FRIENDS
Time to reconnect with old friends and make new ones! I love my friends, I really do! But for some reason some inertia or irrational fear or something keeps me from picking up the phone often and saying hi… So that’s going to happen this summer!

9) SAVING THE WORLD
Well… maybe not quite, but at least doing even MORE for the environment. Like putting up environmental posts, visiting elected officials, buying local/organic, installing a low-flow showerhead, planning how I’ll be “green” at MIT…

10) Um, something. People usually do these in lists of 10, right?

Maybe I’ve made part of this post way too personal… but thanks for reading, hope you don’t think I’m really weird now ^^;;;

Video of the day (song I’ve never forgotten!):

Yay Jimmy Neutron!

Visiting Churchill and Hewitt!

Because they’re my old elementary and middle schools. And I have such awesome friends there. And teachers. Woohoo!!!!!!!

Today at 11:30 I went to visit my best friend Sammy from kindergarten at Churchill. We went with Maddy to Subways for food and came right back to meet everyone. Here’s the list of people I met before the bell rang – Dennis (art teacher – made me fall in love with pottery which is something I have to do again XD), Joe (who always called me “Marcela bela” =P – phys ed teacher), Aleks (twice! Bear hug!), Laura =), Cafega (scream =P), and some other people in the hallway/street like Jesse and Will H. And we saw Dana too. Hope I’m not forgetting anyone X_X

Anyway here are some pics:

Thanks for having me over Sammy!!!!! XDD

Hey Shumei! Great to see you! Sorry to barge in on your lunch XD;

Hey Shumei! Great to see you! Sorry to barge in on your lunch XD;

Then at 1:20-30ish I got up to Hewitt to see Leigh and all my Hewitt teachers [Mr. Gruenberg, Ms. Stevens, Ms. White, Ms. Grand (or it is Mrs. Grand? O_O), Mr. Viscusi, Ms. Hoffman, Senor Gray (not Grey I think – Leigh, help me out here), Mr. Rose, and Mr. Denver]. And then Leigh and I went to Hale and Hearty’s for soup (Leigh) and salad (me), although my salad was more like a big crunchy raspberry because they put WAY too much sauce. Here’s Leigh with her soup:

Hey Leigh!!! You'll be DONE on Friday!!! So early =P But no matter, I'm so proud of you!!!

Then I came home, decided not to go exercise because I have two projects to do for tomorrow, ate half of the cookies I baked yesterday, and now desperately need to finish and desperately need to exercise. If I don’t I will turn into a chocolate chip applesauce cookie.

A Lazy Post

Hey all, sorry for not posting yesterday X_X But I do have an excuse – an evil term project – but now it is over and done with!!! XD Although I am STILL writing my novel… or trying to…

Congrats to all the seniors that got awards today! =) No school tomorrow (woohoo!) but there are still three projects to do =P But I might just be a totally unproductive senior tonight.

But I would like to do a drama review soon, probably over the weekend. (Speaking of dramas I tried to start Love Contract again, but I couldn’t do it. Couldn’t get through it.)

OK, tomorrow I’ll connect my camera and post up a ton of pics from the awards ceremony and such, but for now I’ll just put up another video:

YAY MY GIRL!!! One of the best dramas EVER!!!!!!!!!!! (Last 2-3 episodes were … but it is still TOTALLY worth watching)
