Further Blogging

Video of the… evening (WATCH IT, I don’t love everything Muse has done but they have some EPIC songs – just look at that music video… do ITTT…)

and SUPER EPIC lives… esp. at 3:22…):

Hey, so for my third post in a day on my third day after starting a blog again I’m going to try to forecast the trajectory of this blog, and I’d love to hear input from anyone (I know there aren’t many people visiting now, but but I THINK you’re here) about what you like, don’t like or care for, and what you’d like to see here.

This could be a personal blog, where I simply rant out my feelings and list miles I’ve done and whatnot, but I don’t want it to be that (or just that). There are websites like Livejournal or Fanfiction.net for writers and readers, Youtube for video watchers and makers, OCW with classes, Dramabeans (a blog!) for Korean drama viewers and people that like to read about them, news/opinion blogs, food blogs, travel blogs…

I know I hang out on a lot of these sites to the point that they almost feel like home. And I guess that’s what I’d ideally like my site to be – a place where people can hang out, learn/enjoy new things, contribute through comments or more. A FUN place!

So if there are things you’d like to see or suggestions you have about content or writing, COMMENT AWAY!!! =D (Do it now! Neurotic talking-to-self section warning ahead!)

So here’s the process that this kind of idea usually goes through when it comes to ME:

“Hey, if those are so fun why not make a writing/video/fun-class/asian-drama/opinion/food/travel blog?”
“That sounds like the BEST blog (or is that a website?) EVER! Let’s do it!”
“Wait, we have to make sure we have games in there. Good sites are interactive. And miniclip and shockwave and whatever make me feel overwhelmed. And they have no adventure games. Let’s get some action/adventure games in there, and make them environmentally themed too…”
“OH MY GOSH how did I not mention environment up there? OK let’s add a /environment, but let’s not go crazy on the games. One project at a time.”
“Yeah, yeah… oh and good websites also have awesome graphics, so I have to design them. And find photoshop or paintshop pro or whatever somewhere.”
“And good websites are also made with PHP or maybe Ruby – maybe that’s only needed for official crazy sites – and MySQL, and CSS, and some HTML, and Javascript, and maybe more code for the games, and…”
“How many of those do I know?”
“OK whatever let’s start learning CSS. And PHP. And reading that 600 page book on software development.”
“…Shouldn’t we start with the content first? Why don’t we try Dreamweaver if MIT gives it out for free?”
“We’ll do that too. Let’s do it!”

** two weeks later **

“I just replaced my optical drive a week ago… and this Dreamweaver CD is not. Working.”
“How many times have you tried it?”
“Does another CD work?”
“Are you serious?”
*inserts Howl’s Moving Castle*
*Disney screen comes up*
“Of course.”

** a month later **

“Oh my gosh Marcela, I’m still can’t install PHP. Or Ruby. Why is everything freaking .exe? And why do Macs make you do weird cd terminal things?”
“Dude, you go to MIT and you can’t figure this out.”
“And my ecology test is tomorrow. F*** this. I’ll get to it in my next life.”

aaaaaaand that’s what happens when Marcela has an idea.

(For now, at least, this is a personal/DC blog – it’ll stay a personal blog unless and until I find the motivation and means to expand it!)

ANYWAY tell me what you think, about anything I’ve written, about life, even about the music I post! (Love input on music! Let’s add /musical analysis/discussion… wait I shouldn’t do that…)

In Case you don’t want music, but you want MUSIC…

I’ll give you something. I would have put it on my last post but should really stop editing my posts after first posting them… [edit – I replaced the version [EDIT] with the super epic version, so much for not editing posts… and how [EDIT] many “posts” is that in one line? [EDIT] And how many “edits”?]

At Work all Alone

Hm, so I’m supposed to be at work at 8, the bus I needed to take was a bit late so I arrived at 8:03. There was no one in the office. Trust the day that I arrive within five minutes of when I say I will to be the day that I don’t have the key. And also the day the people who I work for, who had said they’d open the door for me, aren’t there.

After I went upstairs to borrow one (I could get in the building, but not the large office room) they let me in.

So I’ve been here since 8:15, looking up sensors and reading things like this

and making things like this

and grabbing food I brought from this

and discovering Asian Kung Fu Generation on Pandora!!! That (almost) made my day.

I just hope I wasn’t supposed to go somewhere and missed them leaving by 3 minutes. Apparently there’s a new intern today too – maybe he’s invisible, but he’s not here. There are only two people working in this space, but without either it’s kind of lonely.

So I decided to take an early lunch break and blog =)

Gonna heat up some awesome Trader Joes butternut squash soup, then back to work!

Video of ze day:

Whoa an update!!!

And less than 24 hours after my first post! (just barely, was going to be earlier than this too*)

Video of the day:

Guess what guess what guess what

Today I got up at 9, went out and tried to run this “7 mile” route near the National Zoo and back, and missed the part where it said “turn back at the automobile tunnel” because I thought it would loop around. Then I check where I am after I’m going nowhere and it’s like 90 degrees outside and not even eleven and my phone says I’m 5.5 miles from where I started. Oops.

So THEN I decide to try and run through this woody shaded path and after a while find a bunch of people playing with their dogs in the river! =D And I ask if I’ll get to Washington DC this way. And one guy’s like “Sorry, you gotta go back to the fork and get back on Rock Creek Parkway that way.”

So I double back (before I was trying to keep up with someone, now I’m flat out jogging), turn after 15 or 20 minutes back up, and jog like if I’m going to go any faster in the sun I’m going to get heat stroke or something (and why didn’t I bring WATER? or a swimsuit?), and FINALLY get back a bit more than 2 hours after I started.

(I did stop to take a picture though – should have taken some earlier of the even more forest-y part)

I don’t know how far that was, but man it was HOT. And it’s only May 30th. I am spending as many hot day hours as possible in a cool office. Or maybe a shady (?) bus garage or four. Who knows?

Hey so AFTER I arrived back at my dorm at 12:37-ish and showered and whatnot, I decided to go explore Georgetown (the neighborhood in DC, not the college) a bit.

*This is why this post didn’t go out around 1 PM – Also had to go there to make an appointment with the Apple Store to replace my trackpad, as I had had problems clicking on things for the entire past week (as in I would double click on a text box like the one I edit posts in for five minutes straight and then FINALLY it would CLICK on it, so then I decided to make it so taps were clicks, was able to do facebook and a blog post and even a Monkey Island game with difficulty with that, and then the computer decided that I was tapping the trackpad ALL THE TIME even when I wasn’t. So I was typing the running part of this post and had my mouse in the middle of the text box and all of a sudden I would be typing somewhere in the middle of the second paragraph. Then I turned off the tap-click option. And then. Couldn’t. Click. Anything. I couldn’t even turn the tap click thing back on.).

NOW I HAVE A WORKING TRACKPAD!!!!! WORKING TRACKPADS ARE AWESOME!!!!!! They do what you want them to do!!!!!

I’m going to put the rest of the day in bullets so it looks less like a runon sentence =D

Made that Apple Appointment
Tried to catch a bus to this gelato place that had like 4.7 stars on Yelp
Checked Google Maps and the metro website for when it would arrive
Stood there at the arrival time with no shade in the 90 degree weather
Bus did not arrive at arrival time
Cell phone said next bus was in half an hour
Went to Barnes and Noble
Ordered a strawberry-banana smoothie made vegan (I know, it was that or ice cream, it’s FREAKING HOT and there’s no blender where I am… gotta find one and save $$ eventually)
Saw that the woman sitting next to me had a magazine called Poets and Writers about writing contests and I was like, “Are you a writer?”
Had an inspired conversation about writing scenes and short stories and studies and creating characters and story ideas
Read where to buy things like pots and cheap clothes in DC
Read a book about Software Development which told me in the intro about how to make your brain actually learn things and in the first two chapters that you have to to iterate parts of the project you’re working on with the customer every twenty days or as soon as is sensible and write your requirements as “user stories” and to estimate the time each part would take to do using something called “planning poker” and so far nothing yet about design or coding

From there I went and got the computer thing done, got some falafel with my roommate and her friend who’s interning at the EPA in economics (=D), had an involved conversation about how to tell people you transferred to Stanford (like he’s doing) without sounding pretentious and favorite books and philosophers, and finally came back home! And probably got like 13-14 hours of mileage total. Too bad I’m shit for real speed.

(Almost went right back to the Apple Store when the internet wasn’t working, aaaaaand then it worked after 15 minutes!)

More about internship-y stuff, and maybe other neighborhoods like Friendship Heights, later this week! =)

Look at what lives in Washington DC’s parks!

First Blog Post from DC!

Hey all, I’m starting a DC Blog! Well, I’m starting it on my old blog because I’m lazy.

So now I’m blogging from DC, and I will do my best to update as often as possible!

News may be ranty, long, unedited depending on when I’m posting it, indecipherable, ranty… but hey, who’s judging? Judges can go finish their own work at court.

This may or may not all be about DC, because once I start doing something, get past some threshold and somehow muster up the activation energy to get something going, I go crazy and go all over the place – so if you see comments on k-dramas that were made in 2005, music recommendations/”analyses”, dream lists, thoughts about writing/books, updates on how many miles I’ve run if any, you’ll know what happened.

One of my goals this summer is to learn how to build websites with actual code though, so I might try doing fancy stuff here, but don’t hold your breath for seeing that early next month. I am however looking at a triathlon training program that I am strongly considering joining =DDD But it means swimming at 5:30 AM DDDD= Well if I can go from waking up at 12 to waking up at 6, another 1.5 hours earlier shouldn’t hurt… riiiight?

I’m going to post music videos that are near and dear to my heart and want the WORLD to know about, so you’d BETTER watch them… *said like Lee Min Ho’s ‘confession’ of love in Boys Before Flowers, with a dramatic stomp that you’d see in real life from five year olds – apologies if you’re sane and never watched that drama and/or don’t even know who Lee Min Ho is*

(Just kidding, I don’t really care since though I think they’re awesome when I post then I’m 1/7.5 trillionth of the human race at this point in time so my taste might not be yours =P)

Hey, this post is tame by my latest standards, if you have insanophobia RUN AWAY BEFORE IT’S TOO LATEEEEEEEEEEE

(In Vonnegut style that guy in the video is me going forward now and the girl from the car is YOU)
